Special Olympics

At ODS, we love our sport’s teams! From Softball to Soccer, our consumers have become award winning players when it comes to team-work, learning the rules of the game, and being a good-sport.

The Special Olympics Sports offered through ODS are not exclusive to ODS Clients and Coaches from all of the teams encourage all to practice and participate if they are so inclined. However, the majority of athletes represented on the teams are ODS Consumers.

Our Teams:

Blue Sox

Softball

The Blue Sox (Navy) and The Blue Sox (Royal) represent San Joaquin County in softball. The teams begin practice in Mid-April, with more intense, frequent trainings beginning in June. Competitions occur in late August and early September. The Blue Sox (Navy) have been highly successful in their division and the Blue Sox (Royal) are excited about their inaugural season. Travel and overnight trips are a regular part of being involved with the Sox and the teams are usually provided with very nice accommodations.

Strikers

Bowling

As it begins to get colder out and the leaves begin to change, the Stockton Strikers Bowling Team begins weekly practice. A wide range of skill levels are represented on the Strikers and athletes consistently bring home their fair share of Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals. While bowling is not a team sport, we practice together as a league. The highest scorers from each division are then invited to participate in the Special Olympics Northern-California Bowling Championships in Sacramento, CA.

Swarm

Basketball

The Stockton Swarm represent San Joaquin County in the sport of basketball. Each year, practice begins in early January, with competitions occurring throughout the season against rival San Joaquin County teams. The Northern-California Regional Tournament occurs in early April in Sacramento & Championships in Berkley, CA. The Stockton Swarm were the first competitive ODS Special Olympics team to win a gold medal in regional competition. The Swarm are the current silver medalists in Northern-California Division 3A.

Stompers, Stormers, and Slammers

Soccer

The Stockton Stompers, Stormers and the Slammers represent San Joaquin County in Special Olympic Soccer competitions. 2006 was the inaugural season for all three teams. Both the Stompers and the Stormers earned bronze medals, but the standouts were the Slammers who were awarded the silver medal and will be representing San Joaquin County at the 2006 Regional Soccer Championships in Sacramento, CA.
